A strong emphasis is placed on keyboarding speed and accuracy, comprehensive computer applications, and communication skills. The Administrative Specialist program contains 960 clock hours.

  • Medical Transcriptionist


    Medical Transcriptionist Program Overview

    The Medical Transcriptionist is a technical position requiring both speed and accuracy in transcribing medical terminology. Consequently, this program emphasizes strong keyboarding skills. Courses in Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology build an understanding of the medical vocabulary needed to accurately transcribe medical dictation. The student builds skill from transcribing actual medical tapes of increasing difficulty and also learns a computerized medical billing program widely used in the profession. The Medical Transcriptionist program contains 960 clock hours.

  • Patient Care Technician


    Patient Care Technician Program Overview

    The Patient Care Technician program develops basic care skills required in a hospital environment. This includes taking vital signs, blood draws, dressing changes, Foley catheterizations, EKG's, assisting patients with activities of day-to-day living, and patient observation. The PCT is prepared to record pertinent information in patient charts and communicate with other members of the health care team to ensure continuity of patient care. (Note: A Wonderlic SLE test score of 18 is required for admission to this program.) Students in this program are supplied with one set of scrubs and one stethoscope after the first quarter of training. The Patient Care Technician program consists of 1020 clock hours.

    Offered in the evenings at the Southgate campus.

     

  • Pharmacy Technician


    TRAINING IN THIS PROGRAM INCLUDES:

    • Learning pharmacy operations including strong communication and customer service skills that are critical to the success of the pharmacy technician.
    • Learning the language of medicine and building a proficient medical laboratory including the structure of the body, common diseases, treatment, laboratory tests and abbreviations.
    • Learning the use and side effects of medications (generic and brand name, prescription, non-prescription, and alternative) commonly used to treat diseases
    • Students are introduced to basic pharmacy practices including laws and regulations
    • Externship in a supervised, ambulatory or institutional pharmacy setting under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and his/her staff.
  • Medical Assisting Specialist


    The Medical Assisting Specialist is a valued member of the medical team in physicians' offices, clinics, and hospitals. The program prepares the student to assist physicians in administering office operations and performing routine duties associated with patient care. Training includes Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, insurance coding, and a computer billing system widely used in medical offices throughout the country. Students in this program are supplied with one set of scrubs and one stethoscope after the first quarter of training. The Medical Assisting Specialist contains 720 clock hours.
